What To Look For When Purchasing An A/C Unit

The average life of an A/C unit is 10 to 14 years, so you can count on going through an A/C purchasing process at least once. What should you look for when the time comes?

First, make sure you choose the right size – too big of a unit or too small can cause some serious issues. It’s recommended that the HVAC tech performs a load calculation to solve this issue.

Next, make sure your unit provides you with a very high Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, or SEER. This is the measurement of energy needed to deliver the proper amount of cooling.

Don’t forget to ask about the compressor. There are single-stage and two-stage compressors. It’s recommended to seek a two-stage, it has two speeds to cycle at, as opposed to the single-stage which has only a high speed, which results in higher electric bills.
